Ciekawe historie wiążą się z piaskowym budynkiem (1937) PKO Bank Polski. Rzeczony bank nabył widoczną na starej fotografi kamienicę czynszową, usunął lokatorów i ją zburzył. Rozpisano konkursu na budynek banku, a jednym z warunków było zaprojektowanie w tym miejscu wieżowca. W rozmowie z inwestorem inż. Czarnecki wskazazał obligatoryjne wysokości gzymców na placu i nie uległ. Nadąsani przedstawiciele stwierdzili, że załatwią temat z ministrem w Warszawie, skoro w Poznaniu nic wskórać nie mogą. Konkurs wygrał wysoki wieżowiec, na szczęście minister nie zamierzał występowac przeciwko przepisom. Projekt zmieniono.
Natomiast podczas budowy okazało się, że teren pod stawianym obiektem jest bardzo grząski. Wbicie długich pali przedrożyło inwestycję, w związku z czym wykonawca ogłosił upadłość. Inwestor nie uznał roszczeń wykonawcy. Stało się wtedy oczywiste dla wszytskich, że wieżowiec i tak w tym miejscu nie miałby racji bytu.

Interesting stories are related to the sandy building (1937) of PKO Bank Polski. The said bank acquired a tenement house visible on the old photograph, removed the tenants and demolished it. A competition for the bank building was opened, and one of the conditions was to design a skyscraper here. In conversation with the investor Ing. Czarnecki indicated obligatory heights of cornices in the square and did not succumb. Marauding representatives said they would arrange a topic with the minister in Warsaw, since they can not achieve anything in Poznań. The competition was won by a high skyscraper, fortunately the minister did not intend to act against the law. The project has been changed.
However, during the construction it turned out that the area under the object is very slimy. The bursting of long piles has led to an investment, and therefore the contractor declared bankruptcy. The investor did not recognize the contractor's claims. It became obvious to everyone that a skyscraper would not be in this place anyway.
