In den ersten Tagen danach brannte das Gebäude, besetzt von feiernden und plündernden Rotarmisten, aus ungeklärter Ursache aus – bis auf einen Seitenflügel. Die Mauern blieben allerdings stehen und wurden erst 1952 beseitigt. Der stehengebliebene Seitenflügel diente bis Anfang der 1980er Jahre – mit zugemauerten Westfenstern nach dem Mauerbau 1961 – als Hotel und Restaurant. For the first few days after, the building, occupied by looting and plundering Red Army soldiers, burned for no apparent reason except for one wing. The walls, however, stopped and were not removed until 1952. The stalled side wing was used as a hotel and restaurant until the early 1980s - with bricked west windows after the Wall in 1961.
