Ich finde es wirklich bewundernswert, wenn sich junge Menschen wie SIE so für Geschichte UND Architektur interessieren! Ich gehe davon aus, dass Sie auch gerne fotografieren...(so hätten wir schon mal 3! gemeinsame Hobbys! ;) Ich besuche diese Seite heute zum ersten Mal und bin von ihr ABSOLUT BEGEISTERT!!! Selbstverständlich habe ich mich angemeldet...und, (wie mit einer weisen Voraussicht), hatte ich bereits einige "Damals-Heute"-Fotos in meiner Sammlung! Brauche diese einfach nur noch hoch zu laden! Ein fantastisches "Spielzeug", welches man gerne als einen "Zeitreisen-Simulator" bezeichnen könnte! ;) Einfach genial!
I find it truly admirable when young people like YOU are so interested in history AND architecture! I assume you also enjoy photography... (so we already have three! common hobbies! ;) I'm visiting this site for the first time today and I'm ABSOLUTELY THRILLED by it!!! Of course I signed up... and, (as if with foresight), I already had some "then-now" photos in my collection! I just need to upload them! A fantastic "toy" that could easily be called a "time travel simulator"! ;) Simply brilliant!

Der Bremer Marktplatz mit der Rolandstatue, Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts und heute.
Der Roland wurde 1404 errichtet und gehört zusammen mit dem Rathaus zum UNESCO Weltkulturerbe. Der Legende nach soll die Stadt so lange frei und selbstständig bleiben, wie der Roland steht und über sie wacht. Tatsächlich hat er die Zeit gut überstanden und wurde mehrfach restauriert. Während des 2. Weltkriegs wurde er zugemauert und dadurch vor den Bomben geschützt, sodass heute noch das Original auf dem Marktplatz steht. Nur der Kopf wurde später durch eine originalgetreue Kopie ersetzt.
Die Häuser im Hintergrund sind zum größten Teil den Bomben im Zweiten Weltkrieg zum Opfer gefallen. Das Gebäude links ist die Rathsapotheke. Hier wurden auf dem erhalten gebliebenen Untergeschoss später statt eines Mittelgiebels zwei Giebel im Stil des Neobarocks aufgesetzt.
Rechts vom Roland steht das Deutsche Haus/Rathscafé von 1909 bis 1911. Es wurde nahezu befundgetreu wiederaufgebaut. Heute thematisieren Sandsteinreliefs Zerstörungen und den Wiederaufbau.
Rechts zu sehen ist ein Teil des Rathauses, das den Krieg nahezu unbeschädigt überstand.

The Roland was built in 1404 and belongs together with the town hall to the UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to legend, the city should remain free and independent as long as the Roland stands and watches over them. In fact, he has weathered the time well and has been restored several times. During World War II, it was walled up and thus protected from the bombs, so that today is still the original in the market square. Only the head was later replaced by a faithful copy.
The houses in the background are for the most part victims of bombs during the Second World War. The building on the left is the Rathsapotheke. Here, instead of a central gable, two gables in the neo-baroque style were placed on the preserved basement.
To the right of the Roland stands the German House / Rathscafé from 1909 to 1911. It was rebuilt almost faithfully. Today sandstone reliefs deal with destruction and reconstruction.
On the right is a part of the town hall, which survived the war almost undamaged.
