The Chateau des Ducs de Bretagne is a fortress that was the residence of the French dukes from the 13th century and from the 16th residence of the French kings in Brittany. It was at the same time a military fortress and a magnificent residence. Here you can see the entrance to the castle with the stone arched bridge, probably between 1890 and 1905.
At the end of the 20th century, the monument was in poor condition. The city of Nantes launched a restoration program which started in the 1990s and was achieved in 2007. This led to the restoration of the bell tower and the battlements above the entrance.
