Anders als der Name suggeriert, ist das „Marktschlößchen” nicht als Schloss, sondern als Patrizierhaus errichtet worden. Es gilt als eines der schönsten Beispiele der halleschen Spätrenaissance. Neben dem Roten Turm und der Marktkirche St. Marien setzt die asymmetrisch angelegte Dreiflügelanlage einen wirkungsvollen städtebaulichen Akzent auf dem halleschen Marktplatz. Das Gebäude erhebt sich über drei Geschosse. Ein Wendelstein mit Schweifhaube überragt das steile Satteldach mit zentralem Zwerchhaus und Schweifgiebeln.
1746 erwirbt der Apotheker Christian Friedrich Zepernick das Haus und richtet dort die 1555 gegründete Löwenapotheke ein. Seitdem wurde es auch „Zepernicksches Haus” genannt. Sein heutiger Name geht vermutlich auf das 1883 im 1. Obergeschoss befindliche Restaurant und Café „Marktschlößchen” zurück. Seit dieser Zeit dienten die Räumlichkeiten des Hauses immer wieder unterschiedlichen Gaststätten: von 1920 bis 1929 befand sich hier die “Ratsschenke”, heute bedient hier das „Hallorencafé” seine Gäste.
Zu Zeiten der historischen Aufnahme war in diesem Gebäude eine „Stahlwaaren”- Handlung von J. A. Henckels (Solingen, Zwillinge) untergebracht. Rechterhand im Bild ist die Fassade des Modewarengeschäftes sowie der Damen-Mäntel-Fabrik G. Assmann zu sehen. 1899 wurden umfangreiche Instandsetzungsarbeiten an der Fassade des „Marktschlößchens” durchgeführt, welche sich heute noch an der Schaufensterfront im Untergeschoss
widerspiegeln.
Im Erdgeschoss befindet sich die Tourist-Information der Stadt Halle, sowie der Uni-Shop,
der ein breites Angebot an Merchandise-Artikeln der Universität anbietet.

Contrary to what the name suggests, the “Marktschlößchen” was not built as a castle, but as a patrician house. It is considered one of the most beautiful examples of the late Renaissance in Halle. In addition to the Red Tower and the St. Marien Market Church, the asymmetrically arranged three-wing complex sets an effective urban accent on Halle's market square. The building rises over three floors. A Wendelstein with a tail hood dominates the steep gable roof with a central dwarf house and tail gables.
In 1746 the pharmacist Christian Friedrich Zepernick bought the house and set up the Löwenapotheke founded there in 1555. Since then it has also been called "Zepernick's House". Its current name probably goes back to the restaurant and café “Marktschlößchen” located on the first floor in 1883. Since then, the premises of the house have repeatedly served different restaurants: from 1920 to 1929 the “Ratsschenke” was located here, today the “Hallorencafé” serves its guests here.
