Das „Gasthaus zum Mohr” wurde 1536 erstmalig erwähnt und gilt damit als das älteste Wirts-haus der Stadt. Als solches zeichnet es sich mit wechselvoller Geschichte bei erstaunlicher Beständigkeit aus.
Nach einem Brand 1743 wurde das Gasthaus als zweigeschossiger barocker Putzbau mit Walmdach wieder errichtet und im 19. Jahrhundert um einen Saalanbau erweitert. Im Laufe der Zeit hat sich das äußere Erscheinungsbild kaum gewandelt. Um 1800 war der „Mohr“ Treffpunkt um den romantischen Komponisten Johann Friedrich Reichardt (1752 – 1814).
Zu DDR-Zeiten galt dieser Ort als Treffpunkt für systemkritische junge Leute. Studenten feierten zünftige Feste und konnten das studentische Biertestat ablegen – eine Tradition, die in Halle heute noch von den Mitgliedern des Instituts für Pharmazie gepflegt wird. Nach einem Brand 1979 konnte der Gasthof 1985 wiedereröffnet werden. 2010 / 11 erfolgten weitere umfangreiche Sanierungen.
In direkter Nachbarschaft des „Mohren”, in der Burgstraße 71, befindet sich die „Gosenschänke”, die insbesondere heute bei der Studentenschaft beliebt ist.

The "Gasthaus zum Mohr" was first mentioned in 1536 and is therefore the oldest inn in the city. As such, it is characterized by an eventful history and astonishing durability.
After a fire in 1743, the inn was rebuilt as a two-story baroque plastered building with a hipped roof and a hall extension was added in the 19th century. Over time, the external appearance has hardly changed. Around 1800 the “Mohr” was the meeting point for the romantic composer Johann Friedrich Reichardt (1752 - 1814).
During the GDR era, this place was considered a meeting place for system-critical young people. Students celebrated hearty festivities and were able to take the student beer certificate - a tradition that is still cultivated in Halle by the members of the Institute for Pharmacy. After a fire in 1979, the inn was reopened in 1985. Further extensive renovations were carried out in 2010/11.
In the immediate vicinity of the “Mohren”, at Burgstrasse 71, is the “Gosenschänke”, which is particularly popular with the student body today.
