The Gote Markt in Bruges is the central square around which the settlement developed in the Middle Ages. Here one can see the row of houses on the north side of the square, with the stepped gables typical of the city. In the Middle Ages the fishermen's guild had its seat here. Today restaurants and cafés are located here. Bruges' old town has been exceptionally well preserved, and almost the entire city consists of historic buildings.
