Kruispoort gate was built around 1300 with the second city wall and replaced in 1366. Destroyed in 1382, when Philip van Artevelde took the city with the citizens of Ghent, it was rebuilt in 1400. Charles V, Napoleon and the German army all marched through this gate to Bruges. In the background you can see the wheels of preserved windmills, which used to stand on the ramparts in large numbers.
