The Wilbur-Wright Tunnel or Tunnel du Vieux-Mans was constructed from 1873 to 1877. It allows to cross the historic old town of Le Mans ("Cité Plantagenêt"). Until the middle of the 20th century, only trams ran there. On the left you can see part of the Gallo-Roman city wall. The houses were later demolished to reveal the wall. The historic old town of Le Mans with its remarkable city walls is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
