The Gros Horloge is the oldest clockwork in France and the symbol of the city of Rouen. It is attached to a 14th century belfry, with an archway over the Rue du Gros Horloge. This pedestrian street connects the old market with the cathedral and is lined with many stores. Despite being heavily bombed during the Second World War, Rouen has retained much of its old cityscape today.
