Das Vorher-Foto zeigt das Denkmal für Johann Carl Bertram Stüve (1798-1872) auf dem Platz vor der Marienkirche. Die Osnabrücker widmetem es dem Juristen, Politiker und langjährigen Bürgermeister ihrer Stadt 1882 zum zehnten Todestag. Bis zum Jahr 1935 stand es auf dem Marktplatz vor dem Rathaus, musste aber den Parteiaufmärschen der NSDAP weichen und sollte 1943 wegen angeblichen Mangels an künstlerischem Wert eingeschmolzen werden. Es überlebte im Kohlenkeller des Museums, von wo es 1948 in die Grünanlage vor der Volkshochschule wanderte, wo es heute steht (zitiert mit freundlicher Genehmigung von www.bildpostkarten.uos.de).
The Before photo shows the monument to Johann Carl Bertram Stüve (1798-1872) on the square in front of the Marienkirche. The Osnabrücker dedicates it to the lawyer, politician and longtime mayor of their city in 1882 for the tenth anniversary of his death. Until 1935, it stood on the market square in front of the town hall, but had to give way to the party marches of the NSDAP and should be melted down in 1943 for alleged lack of artistic value. It survived in the coal cellar of the museum, from where it migrated in 1948 in the park before the community college, where it stands today (cited by courtesy of www.bildpostkarten.uos.de).
