Das Reichstagsgebäude wurde von dem Architekten Paul Wallot 1884 bis 1894 im Stil der Neorenaissance im Ortsteil Tiergarten (seit 2001 zum Bezirk Mitte gehörend) errichtet. Er beherbergte sowohl den Reichstag des Deutschen Kaiserreiches als auch den Reichstag der Weimarer Republik. Durch den Reichstagsbrand von 1933 und durch die Auswirkungen des Zweiten Weltkriegs schwer beschädigt, wurde das Gebäude in den 1960er Jahren in modernisierter Form wiederhergestellt und von 1991 bis 1999 noch einmal grundlegend umgestaltet.

The Reichstag building was built by the architect Paul Wallot 1884 to 1894 in the neo-renaissance style in the district Tiergarten (since 2001 belonging to the district center). It housed both the Reichstag of the German Empire and the Reichstag of the Weimar Republic. Badly damaged by the Reichstag fire of 1933 and the effects of the Second World War, the building was restored in a modernized form in the 1960s and radically redesigned from 1991 to 1999.
