View on Paris from the Arc de Triomphe around 1900.

In the front the Avenue d'Iéna. The more than 1 km long and 30 m wide road connects the Arc de Triomphe to the Palais de Chaillot on the opposite to the Eiffel Tower. It was named after Napoleon's victorious battle of Jena in 1806; numerous cultural monuments are located at the street.

In the distance the buildings of the Universal Exhibition of 1900 on the Champs de Mars can bee seen. The roof on the left corresponds to the gigantic machine hall (Galerie des Machines), to the right the "Palais de l'Electricité", the "Chateau d'eau" and a Ferris wheel. Also the Eiffel Tower has just been completed. Except to it all buildings were demolished after the exhibition.
