La piscine du Kristall-Palast rue Gambetta, suspendue au 2ème étage, était un exploit technique pour l’époque avec son bassin de 20 mètres sur 10, profond de 1,80 mètre et ses 3 plongeoirs.
L’ouverture de l’établissement eut lieu le 19 février 1910. Cette piscine, réservée aux hommes, accueillait toutefois des femmes, mais de petites vertus. Des bains de boue avaient été également mis en place.
Racheté en 1911 par un Nancéien, la réouverture du Kristall-Palast eut lieu le samedi 10 juillet 1911 avec son cinéma L'Excelsior. Il exploita l’établissement jusqu’en 1914. Réquisitionné par les Allemands l’édifice put rouvrir ses portes à la fin de la guerre, en 1919, grâce à M. Baraszi qui en fit une auberge. La piscine fut recouverte d’un plancher. Les verrières qui apportaient de la lumière ont été recouvertes lorsque le bâtiment a été rehaussé après-guerre.
Un dancing y a été exploité un temps, jusqu’en 1977. Bon nombre de messins se souviendront avoir dansé à cet endroit, sans se douter, pour certains, qu’ils se trémoussaient sur une ancienne piscine. Mais l’incendie d’une discothèque en 1970 en Isère avait entraîné de nouvelles normes de sécurité plus exigeantes et le dancing dut fermer. Par la suite, des cours de danse y sont encore dispensés pendant quelques années. Puis toute activité cessa dans ce lieu.
L’ancien bassin accueille depuis des bureaux à l’étage au-dessous.

The opening of the establishment took place on February 19, 1910. This swimming pool, reserved for men, however welcomed women, but small virtues. Mud baths had also been set up.
Bought in 1911 by a resident of Nancy, the reopening of the Kristall-Palast took place on Saturday July 10, 1911 with its cinema L'Excelsior. He operated the establishment until 1914. Requisitioned by the Germans, the building was able to reopen its doors at the end of the war, in 1919, thanks to Mr. Baraszi who turned it into an inn. The swimming pool was covered with a floor. The windows that brought in light were covered when the building was raised after the war.
A dance hall was operated there for a time, until 1977. Many people from Metz will remember having danced there, without suspecting, for some, that they were dancing on an old swimming pool. But the fire of a nightclub in 1970 in Isère had led to new, more demanding safety standards and the dance hall had to close. Subsequently, dance classes were still offered there for a few years. Then all activity ceased in this place.
The old basin has been home to offices on the floor below.
