Our first stop for our last Christmas holidaytrip was picturesque Limburg an der Lahn. We parked our campervan at the opposite shore from the Lahn faced towards the city center and its impressive Dom zu Limburg. It was a short walk to the Alte Lahnbrücke wherefrom it appeared that Kurt Hielscher took his photo some 96 years ago.
When I took my photocamera and the book of Kurt Hielscher a man approached me and we started chatting a little. After I answered what I was doing, he showed me a binder with lots of old photos of Limburg an der Lahn and he was looking for a specific one to show me. That one photo was from 1925, so only a year later after Kurt Hielscher took his photo with the Dom totally in flames (see comment section below👇). I was stunned.
Limburg an der Lahn is a beautiful compact city. Don’t pass without jumping off the highway, take a look and stroll around a little.

UPDATE (10-2): The fire was in 1929 and mainly hit the Castle. The Dom had some damage too, but not as severe as it seems on the photo in my comment.

Notre premier arrêt pour notre dernier voyage de vacances de Noël était le pittoresque Limburg an der Lahn. Nous avons garé notre camping-car sur la rive opposée du Lahn face au centre-ville et à son impressionnant Dom zu Limburg. C'était à quelques pas de l'Alte Lahnbrücke d'où il est apparu que Kurt Hielscher avait pris sa photo il y a 96 ans.
Quand j'ai pris ma photocaméra et le livre de Kurt Hielscher, un homme s'est approché de moi et nous avons commencé à bavarder un peu. Après avoir répondu à ce que je faisais, il m'a montré un classeur avec beaucoup de vieilles photos de Limburg an der Lahn et il cherchait une photo spécifique à me montrer. Cette photo date de 1925, donc seulement un an plus tard après que Kurt Hielscher ait pris sa photo avec le Dom totalement en flammes (voir la section des commentaires ci-dessous). J'étais abasourdi.
Limburg an der Lahn est une belle ville compacte. Ne passez pas sans sauter de l’autoroute, jetez un œil et promenez-vous un peu.

MISE À JOUR (10-2): L'incendie a eu lieu en 1929 et a principalement touché le château. Le Dom a également eu quelques dégâts, mais pas aussi graves qu'il n'y paraît sur la photo de mon commentaire.
