View west into California Street from the intersection with Kearny Street. A cable car is approaching from the front, and a street car on the left. On the other side of the street one can see California House, with ads for Oysters. Left to it stands the only building remaining from 1893, Old St. Mary's Cathedral. It was used from 1854 to 1891 as the principal Catholic church, after which it became replaced by Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption (located in a different district). This is why it is today called "Old" St. Mary's. Further to the left nowadays stands the pagoda-topped "Sing Chong Building" of Chinatown, which was built after the earthquake of 1906. Most of the other buildings have been replaced by big office buildings, being adjacent to the Financial District.

Vue ouest sur California Street depuis l'intersection avec Kearny Street. Un téléphérique s'approche de l'avant, et un tramway sur la gauche. De l'autre côté de la rue, on peut voir California House, avec des publicités pour les huîtres. À gauche se dresse le seul bâtiment de 1893, la cathédrale Old St. Mary's. Elle a été utilisée de 1854 à 1891 comme église catholique principale, après quoi elle a été remplacée par la cathédrale Sainte-Marie de l'Assomption (située dans un autre quartier). C'est pourquoi on l'appelle aujourd'hui "Old" St. Mary's. Plus à gauche se trouve aujourd'hui le "Sing Chong Building" de Chinatown, surmonté d'une pagode, qui a été construit après le tremblement de terre de 1906. La plupart des autres bâtiments ont été remplacés par de grands immeubles de bureaux, adjacents au quartier financier.
