The 1911 photograph shows glacier ice extending all the way down slope to the valley whereas Chaney Glacier is now confined to a small patch below the ridge in the 2005 photograph. Chaney is now about 87 acres insize. Note the small group of dark vegetation patches on the slope to the left of the glacier. These “krummholz” patches of subalpine fir have not changed much in 90 years and are likely hundreds of years old (witk kind permission of http://nrmsc.usgs.gov/repeatphoto).
La photo de 1911 montre la glace de glacier qui s’étend jusqu’à la vallée tandis que Chaney Glacier est maintenant confiné à une petite parcelle au-dessous de la crête sur la photo de 2005. Chaney a maintenant une superficie d'environ 87 acres. Notez le petit groupe de zones de végétation sombre sur la pente à gauche du glacier.
